This enchanted oak is probably more than 900-years old and one of the oldest oak trees on the island of Öland. Standing near the shore, it was once used as a seamark. Old oaks are vital for insects, lichen, birds and bats; insects that prefer old oaks include the stag beetle, hornet and an endangered scarab beetle. I included my hand in the frame, so you can get an idea of how wide this tree trunk is.
