I made this picture today in the garden, I thought it was pretty funny to find the almost eaten apple hanging in the tree. Blackbirds are very alert birds and keep their eyes open for any competition, that may want to steal their dinner. In autumn, I leave all the fallen fruit for them to feed on, they love the apples; some times they can't wait for the apples to fall, so they eat them up in the tree itself.
The males live up to their name but, confusingly, females are brown often with spots and streaks on their breasts. The bright orange-yellow beak and eye-ring make adult male blackbirds one of the most striking garden birds and its mellow song is also a favourite.
