Geese in the dusk

Last week, I received the latest issue of the the magazine Natur og Miljø from The Danish Society for Nature Conservation and one of my images was in the gallery. With this image in the N&M gallery, it is a kind of an anniversary for me, with more than thirty images on the gallery pages over the years.

Geese in the dusk, Vejlerne nature reserve, Denmark

The spirit of the outdoors is captured by using the light, I love using the pastel colours of the dusk and the low light and slow shutter speed, gives a sense of movement and mood to this image. On a trip to Vejlerne nature reserve in the north-western part of Jutland, last autumn, I had one of the greatest experiences I've had for a while. In the dusk, large formations of geese came wave after wave and landed on the meadow not far from the observation tower.

Migrating geese make loud, honking noises, called contact calls to help them stay together; the spectacle of migration is a great experience, seeing the large formations of geese as silhouettes against the evening sky was quite an impressive sight.
